Can someone please tell me in details on how to change spark plugs on a mercedes 1998 C280?

Please be clear. I am still struggling and confused about this. Taking it to a mechanic and Benz dealer will be lots of money. Mechanic wanted $225 just for labor charge, and dealer is even more. Any help will be appreciated. Exactly where are the spark plugs located? How do i open them? Will I need some special tools? etc... Thank you!Can someone please tell me in details on how to change spark plugs on a mercedes 1998 C280?Remove spark plug suppressor, remove spark plug, reinstall suppressor. Repeat for other 11 spark plugs ( there are 2 plugs per cylinder ). The front ones are not too bad to change but the rear ones are pretty tight and you'll need a swivelling socket extension to reach them. Can someone please tell me in details on how to change spark plugs on a mercedes 1998 C280?take the spark plugs out and put the new ones in...Can someone please tell me in details on how to change spark plugs on a mercedes 1998 C280?The fact that you can't even see them tells you that it's not as easy as some people think it is,,,,,,,,,,they're located in deep holes in the cylinder head. Book time to replace the spark plugs on a 112 engine is 3.3 hours. You have to remove and replace the ignition coils (all 12 of them) and it takes a special tool to remove the wires without causing any damage (the wires are $40. each). Can someone please tell me in details on how to change spark plugs on a mercedes 1998 C280?Sorry to say. If you cant find them, have the mechanic do it. Don't go to the dealer find a smaller place that wont charge as much. You could follow the plug wires but you do need a ratchet, extender, and time. If you cross thread the plugs you will hate it and ruin the engine. Also when you change the plugs you should do the distributor and wires for plugs.

Where are you located? If in Houston TX I have a great mechanic that is cheep.

How much to change spark plugs?

I have a 1989 toyota celica st and I am looking to put it platinum spark plugs to make it last longer. Do I have to get new wires too? How much would it be for just these two?How much to change spark plugs?platinum spark plugs can range in price anywhere from 2 dollars a piece to 8.. personally the brand u choose as your replacement would be the same as the wires.. yes the spark plugs and wires should be replaced at the same time to be able to adjust and operate the same as they wear as the years go by.. same as replacing oil filter along with new oil.. your probably looking anywhere in the range of 30 to 120 depending on how much your wanting to spendHow much to change spark plugs?plugs'll probly be $20 and wires'll probly be another $20How much to change spark plugs?go with iridium plugs, ngk makes them they are better. you do not have to replace your wires. make sure the plugs are gapped correctly.the ngk plugs are about 14-20 a plug. but worth it on the small amount of increased fuel economy. i didn't change the wires on my trans am.if you can do it yourself or ask some one to do it. you will get ripped off almost anywhere. i got quoted $285 to do the plugs in my trans am. that wasn't even counting the price of the plugs. How much to change spark plugs? If you don't have any miss firing or rough idle I wouldn't worry about the plug wires just change the plugs but use some anti seize on the threads of the plugs. This keeps them from seizing in the threads in the head of the engine. But make sure you gap the plugs before installing them. And make sure of the torque when putting them in and not to over tightening them because aluminum heads with spark plug holes will strip out them threads.Use a torque wrench if you don't have one borrow one from some body if you can't buy one from a parts store and ask what the torque should be on the plugs. How much to change spark plugs?I put Bosch twin electrode platinums in my Corolla 6 years ago and they're still good. I've ,since then , driven to Canada, Disneyland in Orange Co, Keystone Colorado and Vail Colorado, plus daily commute in the SanFrancisco Bay Area. I can talk about 60,000 miles on a set of platinum plugs and the original plug wires. Invest $10- $15 on those spark plugs and don't worry for the next 6 years at least. How much to change spark plugs? If you haven't replaced the ignition wires, cap and rotor with Denso or NGK parts within the past 50,000 miles you'd better add that to the %26quot;to do%26quot; list along with Denso or NGK platinum or longer lasting iridium spark plugs. Do not attempt to second-guess or re-gap iridium spark plugs. The center electrode is so small and hard it will spall off or break if you attempt to do so.

I need to change spark plugs in a 2000 ford ranger xlt?

I have a 2000 ford ranger xlt truck; the check engine light is on and the computer shows that #1 and #3 are misfiring; I need to change the plugs/wires, but there is not a diagram in the book, nor can i see one on the manifold/engine area.I need to change spark plugs in a 2000 ford ranger xlt?Don't change your spark plugs yet. Many other problems are much more likely unless your plugs are due to be replaced according to your Ford maintenance schedule. Many platinum tipped long life plugs are good for 80000 miles or more. You are probably in the early stages of %26quot;throwing parts at the problem%26quot;. It pays to do a little diagnosis first, especially with an engine misfire error code. However, I agree that the first order of business is to make sure your basic %26quot;tune up%26quot; and maintenance items on the truck have been maintained according to Ford's maintenance schedule. Note that you can easily damage the spark plug wires when trying to remove them from the spark plugs if your not careful, which can actually create an ignition spark problem rather than solve one.I need to change spark plugs in a 2000 ford ranger xlt?Just replace one at a time.

Make sure you test the gap on your plugs though. How do you change spark plugs and spark plug wires?I don't know of any website, but you can try autozone.com. They have some how-to stuff on there so that may help. I have always had good results with champion plugs. Everyone has their own preference. You will need to know the year, make and model of your vehicle (ex. 2003 Ford Escape) and the engine size (ex. 6 cylinder, 2.4 liter). You will need a %26quot;gap guage%26quot;. The clerk at the parts store can tel you what the gap should be and show you how to use it. Start of gapping all the plugs, then remove one plug wire and only one. After remove the old plug and install the new one then put the new wire on. Repeat this process for each of the cylinders making sure to remove only one wire at a time so that you don't take a chance of mixing up 2 wires and hooking the up wrong. This would cause the cylinders to fire improperly because they are timed to fire in a certain order and mixing up the wires will mess up that order and your car won't run correctly. There may be little plastic %26quot;holders%26quot; along the wires in places. If there are, make sure the new wires go into those to keep them off the hot parts of the engine. How to Change a Pontiac Grand Prix Spark Plugs?

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix V6 that I am trying to change the Spark Plugs out off. Could someone tell me what are right tools for the Job? And what the best way to change the plugs and the cables are? Also, I no nothing about cars, but I can follow directions to a %26quot;T%26quot;.How to Change a Pontiac Grand Prix Spark Plugs? For a V-6 Grand Prix you are going to have to have some tools and a little patience and time. The Grand Prix has a transverse engine, meaning it's oriented left to right (like lots of front wheel drive cars). The spark plugs in the front are fairly easy to get at - if you have a socket wrench with a universal joint, you will get those out easily.

The back ones, by the firewall, are going to be obstructed. You didn't say if you had the 3.1 or the 3.4, but they are all difficult. You may have to remove the air cleaner housing, or the wiper arm mechanism. You can do it yourself, however, unlike the earlier GM designs that required you to put the car on a lift so you could go underneath.

Hope that helps. Email with questions. How to Change a Pontiac Grand Prix Spark Plugs? Its very simple. You need a socket wrench and a spark plug socket for the wrench. Then all you do is take them out and put in the new ones. The only hard part will be finding where they are (or at least I cannot explain it to you since I am not familiar with the car). Sorry I can't be more specific, but I have never seen the engine compartment of a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix

change spark plugs for 2003 impala 3.4What is the most easiest way to change out the back spark plugs on my 2003 impala? It really helps if you have a 12%26quot; 3/8 ratchet with a swivel head and a magnetic 3/8 drive 5/8 deep well socket. You do not need a 3/8 universal joint, just a very short 3/8 extension from Sears.

Husky and S%26amp;K makes a swivel head ratchet. You may get by without one as I've changed the rear plugs just fine on a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 3800 V-6 with a standard 3/8 drive S%26amp;K ratchet. Don't forget to twist the spark plug boots clockwise and counterclockwise before pulling the *boot straight off. It pays to wipe on some silicone ignition grease inside the spark plug boots before snapping them back on. If you have over 75,000 miles in the original AC-Delco ignition wires now is the time to replace them. *Do not buy cheap no name ignition wires. Stick to AC-Delco or MSD wires from: autopartswarehouse.com. Don't skimp on the OEM AC-Delco iridium spark plugs either. You also need a special socket with a rubber fitting (5/8 or 13/16). This should cost you no more than $35. This job is easy to do yourself, and if you go to a shop, you will pay at least $65 just for the labor.

You can't get to anything. Stupid battery is a side mount. You just can't get to anything. Checking or changing the oil was a task. Down the road she went. Couldn't get rid of it quick enough. Now that's my newer model. Love my '64 Buick Skylark. Pop the hood and there it is. There isn't an easy answer. I've done acrobatic works with that Buick. Come up from under neath? The new Buicks just suck. I feel your pain and I sold mine. Eff the hassle. What is the easiest way to change spark plugs in an 06 Buick Rendezvous? You will have to use some extensions on your 3/8%26quot; ratchet wrench and an elbow or universal joint that allows the second extension to connect to the first extension so you can allow the plug socket and the extension connected to the plug socket to stay straight while you turn your wrench at an odd angle like maybe 45 degrees.

You may need a 3%26quot; extension on the plug socket and maybe a 4%26quot;-6%26quot; extension on the wrench to clear the clutter so you can turn the wrench and back the plug out of the head. Or you may need a 4%26quot;-6%26quot; extension on the plug socket and a 3%26quot; extension on the wrench. The elbow joint or universal joint will allow you to back it out safely without breaking the plug or stripping the head or installing the new plugs cross-threaded.

Patience is the key to doing it right without boogering up the head. As long as you have good purchase on the spark plug with the socket and your extensions and universal joint are connected properly and you can turn the wrench even partially you can get the plugs out slowly, one partial turn at a time.

When you are ready to put the new plugs in the head, recommend you do one plug at a time so you don't cross your wires, put a little anti-seize on the threads of the new plug(s) and start them by hand before you connect the wrench. This way you will not be forcing the new plugs into the hole crooked and will not cross-thread the plug into the head. Tighten them down to %26quot;snug%26quot; not superman tight. I like to use electrical grease on plug boots so they are less likely to stick to the spark plug insulators so next tune-up you don't have a hassle pulling to plug wires off the plugs.

I recomend using a dab of anti seize on the threads of the new plugs for future removal. the old plugs have to be removed to the left direction (counter clock wise) and are tightened to the clock wise directionHow do I change SPARK PLUGS?spark plug socket and rachetHow do I change SPARK PLUGS?Once somebody shows you how to change spark plugs you may wonder why you thought it was difficult. In some cars it is difficult.

You need a sparkplug socket to remove and replace the spark plug. It is tight enough to keep it from working its way loose. You have the plugs. You should put antiseize compound on the threads of the new plugs before you put them in, but I use a couple of drops of clean motor oil. You should have a gap tool to make sure the gap on the sparkplug electrode is the right size. If you're using platinum plugs they say don't try and adjust their gap. They're usually right, but I always check to make sure.

Remove the spark plugs only one at a time to make sure you don't have a chance of mixing the wires up. Do the job with the engine cold, if you can.

Take off the first wire from the first sparkplug by twisting its rubber cover to make sure it doesn't stick to the plug, then pull the connector loose from the sparkplug. Next, carefully slip the socket down onto the sparkplug and loosen it. If it seems like it doesn't want to turn freely, turn it back and forth a bit, then unscrew it all the way out, taking care to not drop it while you lift it out of its hole. Take time to look at the condition of the plug. It should be dry, not oily or wet with fuel. If there is any water on it you have a serious problem with the engine. It should be brown like light coffee, or grey, but not black and sooty. Take a new sparkplug out of its box and look at it to make sure its gasket is on it and all the way off the threads. Look at the electrode and make sure it is straight. Is some clumsy clerk dropped it in the store it could be bent. That doesn't happen often, but this is your chance to be sure. Measure the gap to make sure it's not open too much or closed too much. Standard plugs can be bent open or closed as necessary. Put a drop of antiseize compund on the threads, wipe off the excess .Here's where you need to be careful: Slowly start the new plug screwing into the hole by hand to make sure it goes in straight. Make certain this is straight. Easy is right. Hard is always if it's crooked. Never force it. Screw the sparkplug all the way down with the socket, then tighten it a half to 3/4 turn more. I use a torque wrench to get it to 14 foot pounds, but that's just being very cautious. As long as its tight enough to stay in will do. Try and remember how hard the old one was to lossen and that's how tight to put the new one in. Replace the wire to the new plug, making sure it is firmly attached and you're done. Do the next plug now, the same way. You'll be glad you don't have two loose wires and wonder which plug they came off off. There is only one right way to put them, so the one-by-one method is foolproof.

If a sparkplug won't come out with your hand tools, there is a real problem you'll need an experienced person to assay. The last thing you want to do is start out with a simple job and end up having to take off the head to have it repaired. Think of the last time you opened a real tight jar. It shouldn't be harder than that. You can learn everything you need to know about doing this basic job in a Chiltons Auto Repair manual. There is very little else you would need to do with that particular engine to keep it running well. Replace the air filter and change the oil and oil filter next chance you have time, unless that's been done in the last 6 months. A good investment, however, is to buy an OBD II code reader so you can tell what's wrong anytime the check engine light comes on. It'll cost you about $100 and it just about costs double that anytime you go to the service dept to have work done. You're saving over $100 changing your own spark plugs. Reward yourself.

Importantly when you have all four spark plugs out, look at the condition of the ends of the spark plug as this will give a good indication of what problems there is within the engine.

All four spark plugs should look more or less the same with a light gray deposit coating the ends of the electrodes.

Why is car vibrates after spark plugs change?

Just changed spark plugs from 02 lancer. I noticed it vibrates a bit esp when im on stop. And also when you step on the gas pedal it accelerates right away like so fast. What have I might done wrong? ThanksWhy is car vibrates after spark plugs change?maan, you may have done several comon mistakes. 1st did you gap the plugs all to the required gap? sometimes plugs are pre gapped but never trust this! a plug can be accidentally dropped or wrongly set. 2nd connected fully on the plug. a spark plug boot most times is a snug fit and people often think its seated on the plug but the metal spring cap may be just touching and not fully engaging. 3rd %26quot;1,2,3,4 or was it 1324 oops%26quot; its shocking how easy we can mix 2 wires, sorry for the pun. lastly damage to the plug wire from hard removal or damage to the plug from a poor fitting spark plug socket. the insulator for a plug is ceramic, a type of glass and they arent user friendly a cracked insulator can allow arcing between the plug and the cylinder fouling the plug and as to the wire most are a carbon core. they handle heat, carry voltage, flex to the angle needed but dont like tugging. also most plug boots are sylicone rubber to resist heat ,oil, moisture etc but with use and time become weakened and can rip. again arcing can ocur. Why is car vibrates after spark plugs change?you should make sure the plugs are properly gapped to spec that could be a problem also check wires or coils and make sure none are loose or bad

How do I change spark plugs on a 02 Jetta 2.0? Is it relatively hard?

I own a 2002 jetta gls and at 40k, the spark plugs need to be changed. I would like to know what the steps are to change them and if it is a hard job to conquer. How do I change spark plugs on a 02 Jetta 2.0? Is it relatively hard?Buy the replacement plugs first.

I am guessing you know how to get to the plugs, so i advise u to make sure the engine is cold, say first thing in the morning. Never pull plugs when motor is hot or at operating temperature as this can sometimes have a negative effect on an otherwise easy job.

Ok so motor is cold u have access to spark plugs and the needed tools; Remove the spark plug lead dont just pull on the lead try to gently use the insulating boot around plug the black rubber bit closest to the spark plug, before undoing the plugs try to tighten the spark plug a very little amount as this seats the thread on the plug, once plug has been tightened fractionally undo plug and insert new plug into same location.

When inserting new plug try to get the thread to bite by screwing it in with your fingers if possible, that is until you have to use the ratchet. At this point i will advise that if the plug isn't going in as easy as it came out then STOP and make sure you are not cross threading the plug. Just undo it and start again.OK so finger tight, good; Next using the ratchet tighten the plug firmly, i cant help u here as this is usual done by feel. If u remember how hard it was to take out the plug then this is a good indication of tightness needed.

    Make sense?

That's about it, continue on with process until all plugs are changed.

Change one plug at a time and take note of where it came from, then lay all plugs in sequence as per removal. Take note of any irregularities of the plugs. On removal of first plug compare electrode gap and correct new plug gap if needed, usually not as spark plugs gapping is not really an issue on modern cars (anything with a computer in it.)How do I change spark plugs on a 02 Jetta 2.0? Should be found online. How do I change spark plugs on a 02 Jetta 2.0? Is it relatively hard?Fairly easy repair. Just remove the engine cover and you should be able to see the plugs on the front of the engine. It helps if you have a swivel spark plug socket, b/c you have to work around the intake manifold.

How do you change spark plugs on a 98 rodeo?

I would like to tune up my car myself my step father showed me how to change spark plugs and i don't remember please explain the easiest way if you can how to do a tune up including oil change and any suggestions on what the best oil would to be use to clean out your engine I really don't know how to word it but hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to ask THX!How do you change spark plugs on a 98 rodeo?you don,t use motor oil to clean out the engine, you use motor flush. as for the plugs you will need a 3/8 ratchet and spark plug socket and maybe an extensionHow do you change spark plugs on a 98 rodeo?Change them one at a time, pull the spark plug wire off one, remove and replace the plug and put the wire back on and move to the next one, making sure you have the wire on snug and tight on the plug,(make sure the spark plugs are gapped correctly B-4 starting. If you are changing the distributor cap and rotor be sure to mark your wires so you know where they go into the cap, or your car may not start. For an oil change, crawl under the car, place a container that can hold at least 5 qts. under your oil pan drain plug and remove the plug, opening your filler cap will help it drain quicker. After it has drained all out, use a filter wrench and remove your oil filter, put a little oil on the rubber gasket on the new filter and put it back on your car by getting it hand tightened and using the wrench to tighten it another 1/4 turn. Put your drain plug back on your oil pan and tighten.

Fill your car up with required amount of oil, maybe 4 qts first if it takes 5, start your motor to circulate the oil through the motor and filter, turn it off and add the remaining quart. You might want to change your air filter also if you have a new one.

5w-30 or 10w-30 should be right for the oil.

SPARK PLUG GAP....every car has a certain amount of gap in the plug to make sure it fires at its optimum...here is a link that may explain better along with some other useful stuff. Find out what the gap is for your car from where you bought the plugs and they can tell you and even check it for you.

    Here is the link: http://www.ehow.com/video_2326846_set-sp

BTW....you don't need a torgue wrench to replace the plugs, just a ratchet wrench, a spark plug socket(rubber gasket inside the socket), and an extension. tighten it , just don't over tighten it.....as shown in video. How do you change spark plugs on a 98 rodeo? To add to it:

Remove the oil filler cap first before draining the oil. I know it's very rare that one can't open it, but it'll be a big headache if you drain the oil and then can't fill it.

Know the a torque setting and use a torque wrench.

Double check on the spark plug's gap.

Consider using a little anti-seize on the spark plug. Some have a coating on it already, some people don't use it. Just consider it.

  • Does any body know why something is wrong with the engine when you change spark plugs, spark wires to new one?

I changed the spark plugs and spark wires to new ones on the Dodge Caravan 2001, 3.3 litre engine.

When I started the engine the light on the dash board showed “engine trouble”

On the road the engine is not stable, especially with low RPM. When

I tried to accelerate and when I did, there was a sound in the engine area like a light low-sound explosion and it looked like the engine did not have enough power.

After the trip the dash board engine problem sign started to blink. I also checked the position wire on the sparks and it was in its correct position.

Does anybody know what the problem is and why it happened?

Thank you in advance for you answers.Does any body know why something is wrong with the engine when you change spark plugs, spark wires to new one?If this problem only occured after you did this work then YES you need to back track and look at the plugs or crossed plug wires. Good Luck SirDoes any body know why something is wrong with the engine when you change spark plugs, spark wires to new one?You got two spark plug wires backward.

With the engine running, unplug one spark plug wire from the distributor cap.

If the engine stumbles more or dies, plug it back in and try the next one.

As soon as you unplug one and nothing changes, that one is plugged into the wrong place.

Giving the new plugs and wires the benefit of doubt, you may have accidentally plugged a wire onto the wrong plug. First check that each wire from the distributor is connected to the correct spark plug. Your owners manual may have a diagram to help with this task or you may have to visit the library and check out a shop manual. If you determined that the wires are correct you may have a faulty wire or plug. If you are able to read the engine computer codes, it will point to the cylinder# with the problem. I've experienced this with my old Volvo. If you find the cylinder# but not sure if it's the plug or wire, try putting your old wire back in. If that fixes the problem, take the wire back to the store and have them give you a new wire. How do you change spark plugs?

In my pontiac grand am, I'm told that spark plugs are very easy to change (well, in almost any car they're easy). But could someone give me very straightforward directions just to make sure I don't screw it up? If you do it wrong you could do some damage to your motor and it definately won't run properly. How do you change spark plugs?Gap the all plugs first, the spec should be on the sticker under the hood. Then remove the One spark plug boot by twisting and gently pulling or you will ruin the spark plug wire and remove that plug and replace. Do this procedure one at a time until all plugs have been changed.

Please voteHow do you change spark plugs? It is straight forward. Take the sprak plug wire off and put the socket on the spark plug. Unscrew it and pull it out. Put another one in and tighten it. Do them one at a time so you don't mix up the wires. If you put the wrong wire on the wrong plug, the engine wont run correctly.

Just remember that when you do change them to go ahead and change the plug wires too, as they age you'll notice a whitish dust on them, this is known as electromagnetic interference or simply the aged wire is losing power throught it's cover and it attracts dust. • How to change spark plugs and wires?

I have a 2002 Chrysler town %26amp; country Limited with 105K miles on it. Due to very low mileage (12 mpg), I need to change the spark plugs (and possibly wires). I will appreciate if anybody could provide me instructions (Do's and Dont's) so that I can do it on my own. ThanksHow to change spark plugs and wires?Make sure you mark the position of each wire. Make sure you have the proper spark plug socket (with a rubber insert in it to protect the plug) Don't over tighten the new plug when installing them. There is not much more. How to change spark plugs and wires?I just changed the plugs on our 2002 town and country. All the sites I saw said that you had to remove a bunch of stuff to get at the rear plugs. I was able to reach back there and get at them. I had to use extensions of various lengths with my sockets, but I was able to get at them. Took 1 hour.

How to change spark plugs and wires?well you should easily be able to locate your spark plug wires and that would be the easiest thing -

one end will be where you place plugs into the engine the other end will be your distributor cap - as you take out plugs from your dist cap make sure you number them with tape ( masking tape ) this is your fireing order and you do not want to mess this up -

buy the pregapped plugs if your not familiar with changing them this way you dont have to worry about the gaping tool - i cant stand them personally -

and basically all you have to do is unplugg from each end replace your plug and wires -

since you arent getting good milage consider replaceing your air filter also -How to change spark plugs and wires?View the Advance Auto online %26quot;todays tuneups%26quot; video for the basic spark plug and wire installation

http://www.advanceautoparts.com/english/How to change spark plugs and wires?go to the parts store, pick up a haynes maintenance manual, how many cylinders does your engine have, pick up that many spark plugs, and wires, rent or buy a torque wrench, a distributer cap and rotor and an airfilter. mark everything where you find it. if you want to save a bit of money, skip the manual (they are handy to have for other maintenance stuff, though) and get everything else. You can get the torque values from the internet and the firing order should be stamped on the engine block, also the cylinder numbers should also be stamped on the block. Before you remove the wires, mark them the same as the cylinder numbers from which you removed them. leave them attatched to the distributer cap!!!! But make sure you mark them to match the cylinder mark on the block!! Then remove and replace the plugs, use the torque values. . . check each plug as they come out. there should be a nice uniform greyish white burnt look to them. note where the ones that look different came from and use the internet to find out what could have caused any irregular deposits on them. Then one by one replace the wires, making sure that you plug them all up to the same reciever on the distributer cap from which you removed them ONE AT A TIME!!! , them, remove the distributer cap, and line it up with the old one and trade the wires over to the new one, one by one, making sure that they are all in the SAME place they were on the old one, set aside, replace the rotor, you just pull it out and put the new one in, in the same position you found the old one in. then you reattatch the distributer cap and you should be on your way with MUCH better gas mileage!! Oh!! also replace your airfilter. . . umm you might also replace your fuel filter as well, sometimes it gets clogged up and messes with you mileage. . .? Good luck and I hope I helped some!! ^_^

When Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?

We got this truck brand new and we use it for daily use but when should i Change Spark plugsWhen Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?I'm a GM Tech, and I will tell you that if your vehicle is running OK then don't worry about the plugs for 100,000 miles. Don't pull them out and inspect them because there is too much potential for breaking a plug or damaging a spark plug wire.

Trust me on this! When Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?I recommend replacing them at 50,000 miles. Do not wait till 100K. Most times the plugs will be seized in the head at 100K and will take a lot of time and money to repair.

Always use antiseize on the threads when re-installing the new plugs. When Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?See what the owners manual says. As a bit of added info...I have never in my 45 years of working on cars used anti sieze on spark plugs. You should just make sure they are tightened to the proper torque. When Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?100,000 miles. This is pretty much standard for all General Motors products. When you change them, use double platinum plugs and you can go another 100,000 miles.

Newer engines with aluminum heads require anti-sieze or you will damage the threads the next time you remove them. And yes, this engine has aluminum heads. When Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?Replacement should be done at the 100k mark. They are a platinum long life plug.

The problem with waiting that long is that over time they may become seized in the head.

I suggest you remove the plugs and inspect them. If they look OK wait till the mileage gets to 100k. At least then you won't have any removal problems, and they are quite easy to get at on your Chevy. When Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?change them a 100k and don't got to some jack leg autoparts store to get plugs and wires.Go to the GM dealer and use oem parts. They last longer and come gapped to spec. all you have to do is put them in.When Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?at the dealership we recommend a tune up(air filter, pcv valve and plugs) as a part of the 60 thousand mile service along with a fuel filter, tranny filter and pan gasket, and several additives w/ other routine maintenece, this can be done anywhere but these we recommend every 60k, good luckWhen Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche? Most manufactures recommend 100,000 miles for a tune up which includes changing the fuel filter at the same time as the spark plugsWhen Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?100,000 miles if you would have problem bring it to dealer under warrantee yes plugs are warranteedWhen Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?I'd take a look at them @ 50,000 miles and check the gaps with a round gap gage. The standard plugs are iridium therefore outlast platinum by 2-1. You should however change the stubby little plug wires at 50,000. Don't skimp on plug wires. Replace with AC Delco. If it happens that MSD makes tailor fitted wires at that time they would be my first choice. When Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?we have a maintenance package called an smo6 which is supposes to be done every 30000 thousand miles which includes spark plugs but really you can wait until around 90000 or 100000 miles but when you do use some anti seize just some cheap insurance but yea be sure they are also gaped correctly and they DONT come pre gaped from the factory the spark plugs you dont gap are the iridium those are the good onesWhen Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?I do it on my car every 30,000 miles when most require it to be around 75,000When Should we change the spark plugs on a 2005 chevy avalanche?GM recommends 100,000,miles (could not tell you what it is in KM). Gm does not highly recommend pulling out plugs to inspect and then reinstalling them. Personally me, anytime after 70,000 miles and use anti seize compound since the engine has aluminum heads. I used Autolite Platnium XP's and was amazed on my 2002 chevy venture around 70,000 miles, its performance.

Does anyone have a good idea if I should change my spark plugs for my 2005 Explorer Sport Trac? I'm sure it is recommended to change @ 100K miles. How to change spark plugs inside cars?

    Hello again =]

I had an Xterra 01 and I'm sure i have to change spark plugs. But since i never done it and I don't want to ruin or break them inside I wonder if some1 can tell me exactly and what tools to use to change them?

It's all the same for every cars?.. Same tools same methods? How to change spark plugs inside cars? It's the same for every car.

    1) Remove the cover, if there is one (usually says DOHC or some nonsense like that).

    2) Remove the wires, making note of their order (crucial). If you have a four cylinder, there will be four.

    3) Using a spark plug socket that fits your car (this differs car-to-car), unscrew the spark plugs

    4) Gap the new spark plugs, if needed

    5) Gently install the new spark plugs by finger tightening, then using your ratchet to just snug it in place - do not overtighten!

    6) Replace wires and cover, making sure the wires go back on in the correct order

Just be gentle, don't force anything, and you'll be fine. It might be the easiest thing to do next to replacing the air filter. How to change spark plugs inside cars? It's pretty straight forward. Find spark plugs, remove spark plug wires, unscrew/remove spark plugs, screw/install new plugs, replace wires.

Here is a simple guide with pictures:

    http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularma

It becomes difficult if the plugs are in a tight spot with little clearance, I'm not sure how it is on your car.

To be sure to get the right spark plug socket, buy the plugs from an auto parts store, then remove one from the box and find the socket that fits it.

Tip: Either label the spark plug wires, or do one at a time. You don't want to mix up which wires go on which plugs.

I have a 2003 Ebbtide Campoine 18.5' Mercruiser 4.3 V6 Alpha one. I just pulled it out of storage started doing the normal routine of cleaning and mechanical upkeep. Gear lube and Oil has been changed before storage (everything up to par) my question is regarding the spark plugs...

How do I change the spark plugs on an Infiniti QX4?

I would like know how to change spark plugs Specifically for an Infiniti QX4. I would also like to know what tools will I need to perform this task. I was told that the spark plugs on an Infiniti are positioned differently from other cars. This is why I am asking specific details on changing spark plugs for an Infiniti QX4.How do I change the spark plugs on an Infiniti QX4?Not as straight forward an operation as you might hope. First, locate the coil packs. The Infiniti has a small coil mounted on top of each spark plug. This is why you will not see any heavy gauge spark plug wires running from a coil or distributor to the obvious location of the spark plug. The coil packs are attached with a 10mm bolt. In many cases other items, (air filter assembly, brackets loaded with stuff) must be removed even to see the coil packs. Be very careful with the coils as they are expensive to replace. The coil pack will reach down into the engine 8-10%26quot; to where the spark plug actually sits. You will need a long socket adapter to reach in and actually remove the spark plug. To change all 6 plugs, plan to spend about three hours if you have never done this before. How do I change the spark plugs on an Infiniti QX4?you should either get ahold of the repair manual (or online version like alldata) to make sure you do it correctly with all the right torques.

Or find an Infiniti forum and ask there to see if others have done it and written it up.

The spark plugs themselves should be pretty standard procedure, but likely you need to loosen and move a bunch of parts to access them, which is the harder part.

Should I change spark plug wires since I am replacing spark plugs?

I want to replace spark plugs in my car.

Primary reason is it has 80k miles and I think it needs changing. Second is spark plugs are very cheap. Only $2 per spark plug. I was wondering if I should be change spark plug wires as well since I would have to remove them to get to spark plugs. Or just change spark plugs and keep old wires. Bad part is wires themselves are kind of expensive, about $40 I think.Should I change spark plug wires since I am replacing spark plugs?Yes! The wires can be slightly bad %26amp; only misfire sometimes but still cost you more than $40 in gas over a years time.Should I change spark plug wires since I am replacing spark plugs? If the wires show not signs of wear, it is probably safe to keep the old wires. That said, for $40 to $50, I would replace the wires along with the plugs. As another answer suggested, it is important to ensure the wires are not crossed during replacement. The easiest way to prevent that is to only remove one wire at a time, and replace it before removing any more wires.Should I change spark plug wires since I am replacing spark plugs?Since the car is at 80k i would change the wires as well. Only remove one wire at a time and put the new wire on, then take off the next wire. If you remove them all you could have trouble remembering which one goes where.Should I change spark plug wires since I am replacing spark plugs?my shop would recommend wires but personally if your not having any problems they should last at least 100-120k.unless they have already been replaced by cheap wires then i would spring for the new QUALITY wires.(delco, motorcraft, etc)
