Changing spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera?

I need help understanding how to change the spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera. Just lifting the hood is no help. It appears the wires and plugs are covered up somehow. Please assist if you can. I want to avoid taking it to a dealership if I can.Changing spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera? The spark plugs are located under the upper plenum on this vehicle. When you open the hood there is a large plastic cover to be removed, the upper plenum is an aluminum item typically attached by 10 to 12 bolts. Once the plenum is removed you will have access to the spark plugs. The spark plugs are platinum and expensive. It is typical to only have to replace them after 100,000 miles. If you have less you may be able to have the Fuel(induction)system service that will remove the carbon build up. Not to sound degrading but I would leave it to a professional mechanic on this ride.Changing spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera?Rh side:Relieve the fuel system pressure.Disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses from the intake manifold.Move heater hoses. Unplug electrical connection @ coil pack.Remove the coil pack retainer bolts. Remove Coil pack. Note: Gm uses a special tool in order to avoid damaging the coil pack. You can fabricate a similar device.Lh side more straight forward.Changing spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera? You have to take the plastic cover off the engine.May also have to remove the upper intake plenum to reach some of them.Car is not very popular so I'm not sure if it is coil over plug or not.Hopefully a GM expert will chime in.Changing spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera?look and see if you can pull the front tire and the lowwer part of the inner fender then you should be able to get to the spark plugs the is what i do to my truck 2003 frod you can bye the replacsement pins to put the inner fender back on cheap

Good Luck... they are junk

By an Escalade... it is good!Change spark plugs on a lincoln navigator 99'?Most likely it is a coil on plug arrangment, try to find the distributor and follow those wires to see where they go, there will be a small coil pack that you must take off to get to the plugs, this is how my Excursion is, also look by the fuel injection rails, as this is where my coil packs are found right next to the fuel rails.Change spark plugs on a lincoln navigator 99'?they are located under the power packs on each head,4 per head.they don't need changing until 100 thousand miles.however if not properly installed the will cause the threads to come out of the head.this was a por design on fords part that has been corrected.i would let a dealership do this as it is a several thousand dollar repair if the threads come out.Change spark plugs on a lincoln navigator 99'?honestly i wouldnt try to do this by yourself unless you are really patient. the plugs are hidden pretty well in the engine compartment. they are on the top of the motor right by the fuel rails. each plug has its own coil pack that bolts down right on top of the plug.

How do you remove spark plugs on a 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE? Do you have to change the spark plug tubes, too?

Any special problems or tools needed?

Thank you !How do you remove spark plugs on a 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE? Do you have to change the spark plug tubes, too?Sometime the cyl head gasket leaks and the spark plugs become stuck in the Cyl head. If you run across one that only turns 1/4 turn and binds up watch out forcing the plug will break it off. After removing the coils. Spark plug seals on the plastic valve cover stay with the cover no tubes to deal with either. No special tools just be careful use NGK spark plugs designed for that motor. Not Bosch (wrong resistance) other brands Nippondenso has a good iridium plug that will work. And NGK exact replacement are the only ones to use. Look at how long the threaded section is it has to match up.

How do you change the spark plugs and wires on a 2000 lincoln ls V8?

I would like to do this myself if I can. I dont know if it will be to much work. How do you change the spark plugs and wires on a 2000 lincoln ls V8?The Lincoln LS has a distirbutorless ignition system, it uses a coil on plug system. There is no distributor, each plug has its own ignition coil in its wire. I would not recommend replacing these unless needed as they are expensive and typically shouldnt be replaced untill they fail to function. The LS features Motorcraft Platinum plugs that are rated for 100,000 miles. So I wouldn't change those untill 100,000 miles. If you are at 100,000 miles or if your plugs for some reason do need to be replaced then I believe on the LS you have a plastic cover to remove off the top of the engine and then the plugs and coils if I remember right are actually located under the fuel rail so you will have to depressurize the fuel rail by depressing the schrader valve. Then you can safely remove the fuel rail and access the plugs and coils. How do you change the spark plugs and wires on a 2000 lincoln ls V8?you'll need a socket set, with another set of extenders and some u-joint looking things to allow the spark plug socket to fit in there. you probably already have a socket set. the extensions and u-joint thing will probably cost about $15 tops. i had to use them on my jeep grand cherokee. How do you change the spark plugs and wires on a 2000 lincoln ls V8?Stlbluesrams34 is on the right track. the LS with the v8 engine does not have a distributor or plug wires. It has a coil mounted individually above each plug. The platinum plugs will last a long time, but if yours is a high mileage car (75,000 or more) and needs it, you could do this job yourself. On top of each valve cover is a small cover plate held on with a few 8mm head bolts. You will have to remove some things to get enough access to them (especially on the drivers side). But you won't have to bother any fuel lines on the v8 engine. One 8mm head bolt holds down each coil. Loosen it and unplug the coil and remove it. It's a pain to get to some of them but be patient and you can do it. Don't forget since this engine has aluminum heads, be sure to do this job with the engine cold and use a little anti-seize on the new plug threads.

I have a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and I need to change the spark plugs...do I have plug wires too?yesI have a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and I need to change the spark plugs...do I have plug wires too?Plug wires go over the spark plugs to give a connection between the motor and distributor, otherwise there would be no spark to fire up the engine. Considering that you don't know about your vehicle or its parts I suggest you take it to a shop and let them do itI have a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and I need to change the spark plugs...do I have plug wires too?when u open ur bonnet and look in side ov it follow the leads from ur sparke plugs they will go 2 either a coil pack or 2 a dizzy coil pack looks like a square block with all 4 leads on 2 it a dizzy is round and normally orange in colourI have a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and I need to change the spark plugs...do I have plug wires too?Coil ignition is when each spark plug has it's own coil going to the spark plug, sometimes mounted right on top of the spark plug. I would just get new platinum plugs..... wires last a long time, and if you have coils for each spark plug, they almost never go bad, so you wont replace them.

have a good dayCan I change my spark plugs without a gap measurement tool?Yea you can do it without. If you have all new spark plugs, all you have to do is change them. they are already at the space they need to beCan I change my spark plugs without a gap measurement tool? You can....but no more that they cost you might as well do it while the plugs are out.Can I change my spark plugs without a gap measurement tool?If you buy the plugs recommended in the owner's manual of most modern cars, they come pre-gapped. Thus you don't need a gap measurement tool.

Many spark plugs even say on the box DO NOT GAP because it can damage the prong or electrode.

So as long as you're replacing the old plugs with new ones that were recommended for your vehicle (check your owner's manual or call your nearest parts store to ask what plugs are O.E.M. replacements according to their parts computer), you shouldn't have to gap 'em.Can I change my spark plugs without a gap measurement tool?Yes. You can take out your old spark plugs and see the size of the gap and try to match it.

Usually you can use a dime for gapping. Most sparkplugs have a usable gap from the factory, and that might work out of the box (my last set did). Can I change my spark plugs without a gap measurement tool?Depending on where you buy your spark plugs, just use the gap measurement tools at the counter of the parts store. Most places are happy to help you gap the plugs while at the storeCan I change my spark plugs without a gap measurement tool?if you take your plugs to a auto zone or something similar, they will gap them for you. if you dont verify the gap is correct your car wont run properlyCan I change my spark plugs without a gap measurement tool?yes, usually they are gapped correctly, but you can compare them as you pull out the old ones( as long as they arent really bad off)Can I change my spark plugs without a gap measurement tool?if you need the same gap and the plugs are the same you can duplicate the the feeler gauge. I can't think of %26quot; with what %26quot; though/ It's also a possibility the plugs already were gapped.

How do you change spark plugs on '99 saab 95 v6?

I forgot to mention it is a v6 and the one time i opened the cassette, there was oil or some other liquid substance covering the plugs, it was a definite wtf moment. i have heard this is normal, but made no attempt to change the plugs and they work fine still. How do you change spark plugs on '99 saab 95 v6?DEFINITELY not normal to have oil in around the plugs. The oil is either from the DI cassette (is it cracked?) or the valve cover seals. If the valve cover seals are leaking you need to have them replaced. If the DI cassettes are leaking, you need to replace those. But changing the plugs is very easy. Remove the DI cassettes, and then use a deep-drive spark plug socket to remove the plugs. ONLY use the NGK plugs specified in your Owner's Manual. ANY OTHER plug will make your engine run like crap. Trust me, please. Put the new plugs in being sure they are threading correctly. The heads are aluminum on this engine so you can easily strip the threads. Good luck! How do you change spark plugs on '99 saab 95 v6?I don't want to offend you. But if this is your first time you should really hve somebody help you or show you. You can easily strip the threads and cause a lot of damage ($$$). But it is actually simple if somebody showed you.

How do I change the spark plugs on my 2005 galant?

Does anyone know where i can get a diagram? How do I change the spark plugs on my 2005 galant?Simply go to a parts store (Advanced Auto Parts for example, or Pep Boys) and tell them what you want to do.

They'll sell you the spark plugs for around $20, and if you don't have a sparkplug wrench, you can pick one up there, too.

    With engine off:

Work ONE plug at a time. You just take off the cap at the end of the spark plug wire, and insert the spark plug wrench and wratchet until the plug comes out. Then (assuming you have purchased 'already gapped' spark plugs), insert the new plug and tighten hand-tight, then put the cap (black rubber cover with circled wire holder inside) back on.

Do this with all plugs, and then start the car.

And where can I get help via manual or diagram to assist me with doing this job?How difficult is it to change the spark plugs on a 1993 Lexus GS300?on the straight six cylinder motor its pretty simple. just remove the air intake box. then remove the throttle body , which should consist of two connectors and two coolant hoses and the throttle plate cable. all very easily accessible. once you have the cable, connectors and coolant hoses dissconnected, there is one nut at the bottom of the throttle body and two long screws at the top. slide the throttle body of the rod at the bottom. then remove the three bolt that hold on the big rubber gasket. now disconnect the three coils (which the little clips will break, but dont worry. after removing the wires and coil IMPORTANT!!! blow out all the debris in the alley due to it might fall in the engine while removing the spark plugs. perform service and dont worry if you mix up the coils it wont matter. just make sure the the wire go in the rght spots. then assemble together. Is there any place online to see how to change spark plugs on a 1985 calais?

if this is a 1985 Olds calais with a 2.3 L quad motor in it ... the plugs are under the large aluminum cover on top of the engine.. The bolts that hold it down are 13 mm and then you have to unhook the wiring loom on the driver's side of engine to remove the coil housing and then the plugs are in the middle deep in holes...

If you are having a bad misfire ,chances are that the plastic coil contact housing is bad...this is very common on this engine.. I recommend replacing the plugs ,all four boots and the coil housing if you can see burned spots on it..

The coils are housed inside the contact housing...

    Hope this helps.

By the way if this is the 2.5 ohv engine the plugs are right there and just follow the wires to the plugs .. replace one plug at a time and you should be fine....but I would imagine that you are having trouble finding the plugs and that would be the 2.3 Quad engine...good luckIs there any place online to see how to change spark plugs on a 1985 calais?theres this web site about.com i was looking at the repair on brakes, just pull each plug your self femember that every plug wire goes to that specific plug. gd lk

  • How do I remove the air filter box on a 98' dodge dakota 5.2 liter? Trying to change spark plugs.?

Yes he's right and it's very straightforward just don't try to rush the job and be patient bec it can get frustrating etc .

When you do change the spark plugs , it's a good idea to clean the connectors inside the spark plug wires with a small flat head screwdriver, plus use a fine sandpaper and wire brush to clean the ignition coil spark plug wire connectors, and be sure to wipe them off with a fine clothe after sanding them. Also it's not a bad idea to check the air filter while you're at it.

How do you change the spark plugs in a '99 SAAB 9-5 SE?

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to take a shot at it myself. The guy at autozone gave me platinums. How do you change the spark plugs in a '99 SAAB 9-5 SE?There is a good web site that will give you step by step instructions as well as pictures on how to do it. Also, it gives you a page to order the plugs you need. It is:

Here is the page to order the plugs from Bosch:

    http://www.thesaabsite.com/95/95ignition…

Here is the link to how to change the plugs:

    http://www.thesaabsite.com/Sparkplugremo…

With those two web pages, you should be set. I have followed them myself with no problems. How do you change the spark plugs in a '99 SAAB 9-5 SE?I assume you have the 4 cylinder model and didn't get the upgrade to 6 cylinder. Changing the spark plugs is one of the easiest procedures on Saab vehicles. Take out the 4 bolts that hold down the Direct Ignition cassette. It is right on top and has %26quot;Direct Ignition%26quot; imprinted on it. Pull up on the Direct Ignition cassette and put it off to the side. You now have direct access to the spark plugs and can remove them in the normal way with a spark plug socket and a short extension on your ratchet. If you have the plugs properly gapped when you start the job, it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes even if this is your first time.

BTW, Platinum plugs are not recommended for Saabs - they can cause engine performance problems and premature Direct Ignition cassette failure. The standard, copper core resistor plugs, preferably NGK (but I have also used Champion and Delco without any problems) are recommended. Change them every 20,000 miles.

No big deal, I can't see 120.00 worth of labor there. I would stay away from that shop.

Simple to do one at a time, and make sure they are all gapped correctly.

No, I don't know the details about the engine. (It's an LS, the car, if that helps or matters.) Yes, I could take it to a mechanic if I had to, but I work weird hours and hardly ever have time available for that, and besides, I'd really just like to learn to do it myself.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. How do I change the spark plugs on my 1999 Mercury Tracer?Without knowing the specifics of the vehicle, and becaus eno-one else has tried to help you yet, I'll do my best. I assume this is the first time you'll be doing this job.

Pop-off the spark plug wires, one at a time. These are the (black probably) thick cables that seem to spider accross the motor. Under each one is a spark plug. If I remember the tracer corrdectly, it has a 4 cylinder front wheel drive motor, so the plug (and wires) will lead either to the verfy center of your valve cover, in a horizontal line, or just above your exhaust manifold.

Now, like I said, do one at a time so that you don't mix up wires. Pop off the far left cable (grab the end 'boot' and pull. Now, using a spark plug socket (it will be designated on the side as such, having a protective and 'sticky' piece of rubber in it) put the socket onto the spark plug. SLOWLY 9as to not break the ceramic plug) apply force counter clock-wise until the plug come loose (this may require quite some force). Now, 'gap' your new spark plug (call your local autoparts store if you need help). To install, use a piece of rubber hose and stick the end of the plug (the screw on metal and ceramic part) into the hose. Screw in the plug using the hose, so that there won't be anough pressure to strip the threads on the head incase you do it wrong. After you're sure it's in straight, use the socket and install it securely. To install, you the same size socket, only without the rubber piece in it (other wise the socket may become stuck to the plug). Tighten it snugly, very tight without stripping the threads. After this is done, 'pop' the plug wire back on, and move on to the next. 10 minuts later, you have brand new plugs, meaning more power and better fuel economy.

Don't get psyched out, this is an incredibly easy procedure, and with these instrustion you can now do it on nearly every vehicle produces since the '60s

How do I change the spark plugs in my gas engine 4cl 2001 jetta?

I am ready and willing to do it myself and would love some advice. Thanks :-)How do I change the spark plugs in my gas engine 4cl 2001 jetta?Tools you'll need: ratchet, spark plug socket, and an extension. You can buy these from your local car parts store, Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, or a hardware store. I recommend that you go to Sears and get yourself a small toolkit. Talk to the folks there and tell them what you want and how much you're willing to spend. They'll match your needs and budget to their selection and get you set up.

Remove the plug wire from the spark plug and then remove the spark plug. Do each cylinder ONE AT A TIME so you don't get confused as to which wire goes where. Sometimes spark plug wires are numbered as to which cylinder they go to, but DO NOT trust those numbers. Somebody could have changed the wires or used a wire numbered %26quot;3%26quot; on number four cylinder.

Before installing the new plug, make sure the air gap between the electrodes is correct. You can obtain the correct gap from your car's repair manual. Your local library has manuals for virtually every car made. You may not, and probably won't, be able to take the book out of the library, but they will make a photocopy of the appropriate pages for you.

While you're under the hood check your air filter. Is it clean or do you need to replace it? You can tell by holding the filter between your eyes and a light source. If you can't see light through it, it's time to replace it.

Check your oil, too. Is it time to change it? If it is, come back here and I'll tell you how to do that, too. It's easy.

Good luck and have some good, messy fun!How do I change the spark plugs in my gas engine 4cl 2001 jetta?not to detract from what you say..l think its great to get ''under the bonnet'' assuming its the same as a petrol car its easy.....each plug has a lead...its important to replace the correct lead to the plug it came from...so

    1 buy your plugs

2 make sure you have a plug spanner

3 remove the first lead, with a firm but not a tearing pull...spray it inside with wd 40

4 using the plug spanner locate it over the plug(have a practice on one of the new ones to see how it locates)rap a cloth round your hand in case the spanner slips a plug spanner btw has a t handle and the business end has a snug fitting hexagonal domed spanner some have a rubber insert and it has a universal joint between the two...sounds technical but its easy really as it allows the spanner to bend to most angles..well you will see its easy

5 use a bit of brute force and ignorance anti clockwise keep the cloth round you hand

keep turning anti clockwise to loosen if its a bit tight a light tap with a hammer will assist...to loosen

6 turn turn turn and remove the old plug

7 carefully clean around the plug hole with white spirit...if you want you could put in a teaspoon of redex in the hole now its not essential but is an extra bit of maintenance..the engine will smoke a bit at start up..but its the cr-- out of your engine burning away and is quite normal but a bit alarming at first.

8 grab a new plug....and with you fingers only carefully locate the thread into the hole..take care and be willing to try 2/3times but ensure the thread is turning in smoothly into the hole...if its not remove an try again...

9 use the plug spanner to tighten down the plug to medium tightness firm but not ott

10 clip back on the lead it will 'snap' on

    11 start her up

blow the smoke out(if you used redex)

12 if all ok repeat the process for the other plugs one at a time...

now this is for a petrol engine....l am assuming gas is the same.....but check first...the rac or aa will advise. and take care a gas leak is classed as a major incident....and l would hate you to arrive in orbit unannounced

You might as well do the timing belt together (or just wait till timing belt swap - if that is in your near future).

Good LuckWhen should I change spark plugs and wires on an echo? Also water pump.?It's overdue for wires and plugs, usually done at 100K. As for the water pump, manufacturer recommends 100K, but if you're due for a drain and change of fluid, which should be done every two years, no matter what they recommend, check the color of the old fluid. If it's the slightest bit rusty, then the pump should be changed. If it's still (usually) green, then don't worry. But you could see if the water hoses are getting soft and if they are, change them, top and bottom to radiator, and maybe to the heater.

  • How do I change spark plugs on a 94 j30?

It's a simple job. Just make sure you get the original NGK plugs. All you have to do is remove the two bolts holding down each coil and then pull the coil ...How do I change spark plugs on a 94 j30?You are going the need a spark plug socket(buy at most hardware/auto parts stores, different sizes so ask an employee or see if theres a book), a ratchet, and probably an extender. Wait for the engine to cool down. Once ready take out the wires from the holes. They're gunna need a good tug so don't wuss out. make sure you remember what wire goes to which hole, this is important. Usually the wire will have a number on the top of it to go to the corresponding cylinder. Now get the ratchet and spark plug socket, if you need an extender use that too. Plug the socket over the plug and unscrew it (lefty loosy, righty tighty). Repeat with all the other plugs. Now with all the plugs out, you can start putting the new ones in. Set the plugs in the socket and then into the hole. Make sure ur screwing it in straight. try to make it pretty tight. If your socket gets stuck in the hole when you pull the ratchet off, you can use a set of pliers to pull it out. Now with all the new plugs in, you can put back the wires in their corresponding spots. This again is going to require you to push hard to make sure the rubber part is in all the way. Once you get all those try to start the car. If your engine wobbles a lot or doesn't even start you did something wrong(i would assume you could have guessed that though). If ur engine shakes and rattles that usually means one of the cylinders isnt firing. Most of the time its because the wire isn't in all the way. If that dosnt help check all the plugs. If you still have problems consult a professional.

    Hope i helped

Depending on options, that engine had either a 4-barrel carburetor or throttle body fuel injection. Regardless of the type fuel system, i'd think it is safe to say that if it's been sitting for a year, it needs the carb or throttle body removed and the jets/nozzles need to be cleaned to remove gum and varnish left by evaporating gasoline.I purchased a 1983 cadillac fleetwood that's been sitting up for a year. change spark plugs and wires? That did the trick. http://www.aa1car.com/common_car_problem

Good Luck once you're up and runningI purchased a 1983 cadillac fleetwood that's been sitting up for a year. change spark plugs and wires?Your problem is most likely the gas left in the vehicle for that amount of time. Even on my motorcycle and lawn mowers I drain the tanks and carburetors every spring before starting them. Take the cover off of the air cleaner and gas it a couple of times, if it smells like kerosene or fuel oil it's bad. That should also tell you if you actually have gas in the carb. and the needle valve isn't stuck. If it is stuck and the carb. is empty, take the fuel line off the carb. and spray carburetor cleaner through the inlet. As long as you have spark and fuel it should fire up.

You should change plugs when the engine has issues but air cleaner and intake related parts get a cleaning first.

Try the link below. How often should you change your spark plugs?Any modern platinum tipped spark plug like your truck probably had installed as original equipment can last up to 100,000 miles. I have 90,000 miles on the original plugs in my 2000 Taurus and the gap has barely worn in all those miles. The car runs great. If the gap were a lot wider than specification, I might worry about excessive strain on the ignition system. How often should you change your spark plugs?usually it is every 60,000 to 100,000 depending on the type of plug. platnium and iridium tipped plugs last longer and have better spark. they may cost more but they are worth it. you would also need to replace a plug if it has been fouled out which means it has oil on it, graphite shading, antifreeze, lean/rich conditions. if you take a plug out and look at the end there will be a little elbow piece and a piece directly above that if it is worn unevenly not straight and there is a big gap replace it.How often should you change your spark plugs?Every 30-40 thousand miles but you should take them out and clean them with a wire brush or a wire wheel every normal maintenance. How often should you change your spark plugs? It is due every 30kHow often should you change your spark plugs?75,000 miles......How often should you change your spark plugs?Ugh, anyone want to change the plugs on my LT1 Formula? :(

How do I change the spark plugs on my peugeot 1.4 306 Meridian 2001 X ?

There is some sort of assembly fitted over the plugs . Does this contain the HT leads/coil etc? It looks like if I remove this I could get at the plugs but I am wary of undoing the wrong nuts. How do I change the spark plugs on my peugeot 1.4 306 Meridian 2001 X ?Hi

You're spot on the money there. Its the direct coil pack you're referring to. There should be 2 or 3 bolts holding the coil pack ontop of the plugs, one at either end and maybe one in the middle, and there may be a little black single wired suppressor secured to one of the end bolts.

Undo them, lift the coil pack off the the plugs (it may put up a fight because its pushed onto the plugs), and then you have access to the plugs.

    Very best regards

New plugs maintain peak engine performance and efficiency. Every engine will misfire occasionally. But as the number of misfires per mile goes up over time, it increases exhaust emissions, wastes gas and reduces power. In the past, most motorist would not notice the gradual decline in ignition performance until it reached a point where it created a steady miss, caused the engine to run rough, buck or stall, or made it hard to start. Not so today. All 1996 and newer vehicles have an OBD II onboard diagnostic system that tracks ignition misfires. When the rate of misfires exceeds a certain limit and causes emissions to increase 50% over baseline levels, it illuminates a warning light. Too bad older vehicle do not have this watchdog system. So on older vehicles, replacing the spark plugs at the recommended service intervals for preventive maintenance will reduce the risk of misfires and maintain peak engine performance. For standard spark plugs, the service interval is typically every 45,000 miles. For platinum spark plugs, it is 100,000 miles. How often do I need to change spark plugs? Its a Citroen Aura, I would recommend replacing the spark plugs between 75,000 and 80,000 kilometres or sooner, especially if you are experiencing a significant reduction in fuel economy and power.

The mile interval is usually around 16,000 (or 25,000 km), but in your case the type of use would require a time-based replacement - my idea is around 5 years, not more, they don't cost a fortune.

I would change those roughly every 15,000 miles. If you notice a miss before then, then change erlier. Also change rotor and plug wires on a see-fit basis.

Ford Focus (1999) - Spark plugs - how easy to change?

    Your Question

    Focus:Spark plugs - I'm a beginner - how easy to change?

I heard I should get Platinum but heard the clearance and cross threading can be an issue. Should I leave it for the mechanics? I heard if I tightened them in by more than 1/16th on a turn (in the Haynes manual) and I don't use a torque wrench or set the clearance incorrectly then they become very inefficient. Is there a feeler gauge on my 1999 Ford Focus? How likely am I to make a mistake? Where is the cheapest place to by the platinum plugs from? I heard these days they come with some sort of clearance built into them?

  • 2004 Frontier Supercharged, How do I change the spark plugs?

Do I have to take off the supercharger in order to get to the right side plugs? Its a really tight spot, If not is there any trick to getting them out?2004 Frontier Supercharged, How do I change the spark plugs? No. You should be fine getting them changed without doing that. There are all in really tight spots, except for large trucks and older cars. However, you must have something to help you up and down on, have plenty of light and all your tools needed at hand, and comfort yourself on a sitting spot which will not do damage to you nor your vehicle. You should be just fine. Be sure to gap them as they are specified to be. Hope this has helped you. Good luck and God bless. Alias.

Do spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs?

Do spark plug wires actually break-down with use?

Do they need to be replaced because of the possibility of damage upon removal?

You don't have to routinely replace any other wiring on a car/truck, what makes spark plug wires any different besides the high voltage (30kV).Do spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs?No...but they DO wear out over time. Many times they're damaged by tugging on them...I've busted quite a few this way when they're hard to reach. It's easy to pull the carbon filament (%26quot;the wire%26quot;) off the metal terminal (the part that snaps onto the plug.) The heat and leaking oil can wear them out as well.

I own a bunch of older cars and replace them only if I bust them or if they get to be about 100,000 miles on them. I recently bought a 1993 Buick with 190,000 miles on it. It ran a little rough (no surprise) and when I went to change the plugs, I found that one of the plug wires was completely worn through...and that the wires were the original ones installed when the car was built.

A set of plug wires for most domestic cars costs only about $20-30.00...so it's not big deal replacing them. (I have a neighbor though, who spent over $200.00 on plug wires for his Benz! That's more than I paid for most of my cars!)Do spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs? No they dont need to be changed everytime you change the spark plugs. I change mine every 50K miles..... Most wires will last the lifetime of your car. I had a burnt one so I changed the whole set.Do spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs? As long as the Ht leads are in good condition then they dont need to be replaced. only replace them if they are falling apart or are melted :)Do spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs?it depends on how many miles are on wires i like to replace mine about 50,000 miles because they go through drying out because of the heat through the wires and engine heat and when you replace them put a little grease on the spark plug before you put the wire on this will help next time you change your plugsDo spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs? No not everytime, However, if you are doing it yourself, might as well change them out every other set of plugs at 40,000 mile intervals or as needed.

Alot of repair shops will tell you to change them, and they will charge you another hour's labor to do it. Instead of the 20 bucks for wires, it will normally cost you 30 bucks for wires and 50 for labor.

So best thing is learn to change them yourself and save some money.Do spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs?no not every time about once every two years or soDo spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs? They do break down over time, but as a general rule, they normally need replacing around every 60k miles depending on the particular car. Look at your cars service handbook and it'll say when you should be doing it.Do spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs?I think yes or you are just throwing your $ away on plugs. They %26quot;burn up %26quot; on the inside. I just went thru all this with my car. IT's worth it to change them...and cheap.Do spark plug wires really need to be replaced every time I change the spark plugs? So long as they don't show any damage the answer is no!!

Due to heat, electricity, moisture and sometimes oil in the engine bay the plug wires do breakdown over time. They will normally last atleast 60000-80000 miles.

To remove the boot from the sparkplug, grip the boot and twist it back and forth on the sparkplug to loosen it first.

Always pull the boot, never the wire when removing it from the sparkplug.
