How do you change spark plugs on a 1999 Lexus ES300?

its a v6 engine meaning you have 3 sparkplugs in the front half and 3 in the back behind the intake manifold. If you are handy with cars it shouldn't be too bad but those rear 3 are kinda a pita to get to. you also have 3 coil pack in the front half which you remove before unscrewing the spark plugs. I also suggest you change the spark plug wires, and both the valve cover gaskets and degrease any oil that is leaking. How do you change spark plugs on a 1999 Lexus ES300?This is a tough job, due to the tight work area for the rear 3 spark plugs. The engine is transverse mounted (sits sideways). Three cylinders face forward and three face toward the firewall. You also have an exhaust manfold back there, so be careful of the heat (make sure the engine is cold). Since your car is now 9 years old, you need to be careful of the plastic on the sensors breaking (the heat, age and pollution make the plastic brittle). You only need to worry about this if you remove the intake manifold. If you haven't done this before, I recommend taking it to a good mechanic and let him do the work. How do you change spark plugs on a 1999 Lexus ES300?This is when you decided if tackling this job is really worth your time. Front of the V block is visible, but if you follow the rear 3 plug wires, you will quickly realize that it is covered under the intake manifold. if you have tiny hand, you maybe able to slide tools between. If not, the entire intake manifold must slide out of the way. Front is mounted to the engine block, and rear is mounted with EGR tube (which you will need $6 gasket for). They barely give you enough space to slide tool to that the bolts out. The first time I did this job, it took me 3 hours - and I am very experienced home mechanic that once dropped a transmission, and rebuilt an engine.

My advise to you is shop around and see if you can find a mechanic that is willing to do this job under $200.
