im 16 and I have an 83 Trans Am. Its my first car and i'm trying to find out easy ways to change the plugs. Are there things i can take out to get to them easier? If anybody has any ideas please let me knowIs there an easy way to change spark plugs in an 83 trans am?A short piece of rubber tubing does wonders when it comes to installing the plugs. Just slide one end of the tubing over the ceramic end of the plug, and you reach will be drastically extended. (Just be careful not to bump the plug on anything when you are installing it, or you may have to regap the plug). Also, never start the plugs in the hole with a wrench - you can cross thread the spark plug hole, which can mean a trip to the machine shop to rethread the hole, after the cylinder head has been removed from the vehicle. Always do this by hand.
As for removing them, you are pretty much left to your own devices for that one. Just remember, as you struggle to remove the plugs, this is the joy - and the price - of owning an automobile.
